This collection of rackmount servers share some common characteristcs for high performance computing. These unique performance features are tuned specifically for HPC workloads.- Low cost platforms for hosting the maximum number of CPUs and RAM
- Buying CPU cycles to run their distributed application, i.e. not mission critical application/storage platform
- Include specific features to boost CPU & RAM performance:
- Altus 650 features dual hypertransport links between CPUs improving memory performance by hiding the NUMA behavior of the Opteron® memory architecture.
- Relion 1670 and Relion1672 feature the Intel® Seaburg chipset with faster buses between CPU, chipset, and RAM
- These are often deployed in large numbers with relatively rich configurations: high spec CPUs, large memory, and power efficiency - while high-availability features or expansion capabilities are sacrified.
